Recycled asphalt (RAP or millings) is an eco-friendly, budget-friendly driveway material that Harrison Paving installs throughout South Jersey. Ground from reclaimed asphalt pavement, millings compact into a semi-solid surface that looks similar to new asphalt at roughly 30 to 40 percent less cost. They are an excellent choice for secondary driveways, farm entrances, utility paths, and rural properties.
Recycled asphalt millings are spread and compacted in place. Over time, the residual tar in the millings helps them bind together — especially in warm weather — creating a stable surface. Unlike hot-mix asphalt, millings remain somewhat permeable, allowing water to drain through. This can be an advantage in areas where stormwater management is a concern.
Recycled asphalt works well for long driveways, back access drives, parking areas, farm lanes, and any application where a permeable surface is acceptable. For main residential driveways where appearance, smoothness, and HOA standards matter, we recommend NJDOT-certified hot-mix asphalt instead.
